The West Lancs Bursary Scheme

A new Bursary scheme has been launched by the the Red Apple Community Trust Ltd.

Eligibility

Any resident of West Lancashire over the age of 16 can apply to the Bursary Fund.

What For ?

The scheme will help to transform the lives of residents. It has been designed to help residents enhance their skills and education, which will improve their chances of employability and career development.

The bursaries will be used for costs ranging from tuition fees for further/higher education and training, to travel costs and study-related equipment.

The Bursary Fund also supports the Government's widening participation policy by helping to make further/higher education and training available to all regardless of their financial circumstances. All local residents are welcome to apply. Access to any college is considered within the limit of the grant. NOTE: Do not say that you have the grant until it is confirmed in writing.

How Much ?

Up to £300.

Application Procedure

Application forms can be completed at any time. Applications are considered monthly. Application forms are available from The Trust at the address below, receptions at Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College. Application forms should be returned to Kath Gresty, Skelmersdale College, Westbank, Skelmersdale, WN8 6JA.

The Process

  1. Information/forms given to Student Services at Skelmersdale and Ormskirk College Lancashire College
  2. Recipient identified at advice session / recruitment
  3. Form completed and sent to Kath Gresty
  4. Form received by Kath Gresty and checked
  5. Check No 1: Are you a West Lancs resident?
  6. Check:

    a: Employment status and eligibility
    b: Unemployed in receipt of benefits exam fees, equipment
    c: Unemployed not in receipt of benefits - all
    d: Employed all for vocational course not funded in any other way

  7. Request agreed then sent to Red Apple Trust (Kevin Hodges) for approval and signed off by two Trustees
  8. Recipient notified of result within 4 weeks of request
  9. Approved forms kept in secure file at Red Apple registered address
