Our Nursery
Red Apple will manage a Plant Nursery in Newburgh. Through Graeme Iddon it will become a well known plant grower and will exhibit at the various Flower Shows around the North West and eventually across the country. (Tatton, Southport, Gardeners World and Chelsea are being targeted) This work will be established over a two to three year period being developed gradually at a pace that is suitable for sensible growth.

We will help various groups of people and will enable them to utilise the resource to benefit themselves in a way that suits their particular purpose. The nursery would develop propagation, splitting plants and general plants work.
There are plans to have three Open days per annum inviting local people into the centre to see what work is being done and allowing the volunteers to show their work.
The plants will occupy about half the nursery so plans to develop the other half as a food production area are being discussed. Raised beds will have to be established and different growing techniques used. Probably new polytunnels established. Distribution of the product will be as advised by the Skelmersdale Food Initiative who are encouraging Healthy Eating throughout the area.
If the land is suitable then a traditional orchard will be developed with free range hens being housed within it. Connected to the Nursery is an additional 9 acres of land. It is planned to have rare breed animals utilise the land. Clearly the land will have to prepared and fenced off and some shelter developed.
Christmas work will concentrate on blue spruce from October onwards.
